The Davos’ Fingers podcast finishes off the Sworn Sword in Episode 78 this week as Dunk parlays with Rohanne Webber, who confounds him in many ways and reveals an ugly truth about the man he represents.  Upon confronting Ser Eustace about his questionable loyalties, Dunk and Egg are determined to leave his service on the morrow.  But Dunk, ever loyal, just can’t betray this man in his need, and goes to Coldmoat with him to deal with the Red Widow.  Another parlay and another failure means a trial by battle as Dunk fights for his lord’s stream, his pride, his smallfolk, and his future, not to mention Dunk’s own life.

“Who’s that Dragon” is replaced with “Who’s that Lion” this week as we focus on the Red Widow herself, Rohanne Webber.  Then of course we finish up strong with Davos After Dark.

If you'd like to reach out to us and let us know how we're doing, or give us some feedback, or just want to vent about how much you hate Ser Eustace, drop us some raven mail.  wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, @davosfingers on twitter, at davosfingers.com or you can find our page on Facebook.

Selection Covered:  Our reading selection this episode takes us through the end of The Sworn Sword.  That is page 176 through the end of the Sworn Sword on page 232 in the paperback.

Matt and Scad tour Standfast, Wat’s Wood, and Coldmoat as Dunk is taken into service By Ser Eustace Osgrey a landed knight in the Northmarch of the Reach.  But the summer heat has seemed to dry up the Chequy Water, or has it. Dunk solves a mystery, trains a militia, and has a bad dream all before going to confront the dreaded Red Widow.

Who’s That Dragon focuses on Daemon Blackfyre this episode and boy is there a lot to unpack with him.  Then it’s time for everyone’s favorite spoiler section, Davos After Dark.

Thanks to all the love sent in by the Khalasar in recent weeks.  Hearing form George’s fans really makes our day! We are still at Ashford in Episode 76 of the Davos’ Fingers Podcast.  The action moves from a very broad evil act to a very personal one as Aerion takes his own brand of crazy to the smallfolk.  Dunk intervenes and gets himself in a whole set of trouble culminating in one of the most enjoyable excerpts in the canon, and the demise of a very promising young leader.

Who’s That Dragon focuses on Baelor Breakspear before we embark on another session of Davos After Dark where we will delve into some of the spoilery bits.

Send us your thoughts!  We love hearing form the khalasar!  So shoot us an email at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, find us on twitter @davosfingers, join us on facebook, or find our tumblr at davosfingers.com. In Episode 75, Matt and Scad embark on a journey through A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a series of novelletes surrounding the wanderings and adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his bald squire known simply as “Egg”.  In this first episode, Dunk buries his only friend, and the knight he squired for, and begins his own journey of knighthood.  He makes his way to a tourney at Ashford Meadow, and is joined by Egg whom he takes as his new squire.  From there it’s all about getting in the jousting lists, buying armor that will fit him as he is a beast of a man, flirting with a puppeteer, learning about his potential jousting foes, and trying to stay out of way of nobles and princes.

Davos After Dark is still a thing, though you will hear us prattle on and on about what actually is a spoiler in this context.  In any event, we have done our best to avoid giving away any in-story spoilers in the main section of the cast, saving those for this special section at the end.  Also, pay attention for “Who’s That Dragon?”, a new little feature that lets us dive into a single Targaryen per episode.

Nothing has changed on at least one front:  we love hearing form the khalasar!  So shoot us an email at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, find us on twitter @davosfingers, join us on facebook, or find our tumblr at davosfingers.com.  Last but not least, if you want to throw a couple bones our way, join us on Patreon at patreon.com/davosfingers.

Selection Covered:  Our reading selection this episode covers roughly the first half of The Hedge Knight.  That is pages 5 through 67 in the paperback, culminating in the end of the first day of jousting.

The Davos’ Fingers podcast has come to the conclusion of our Feast/Dance re-read in Episode 074:  The Blood Before the Pain.  Tears of joy and tears of sorrow.  But we soldier on!  In this episode Sam and Gilly reach Oldtown amidst Ironborn reaving.  Kevan deals with a docile Cersei, quarrels on the small council, and a quarrel in his chest.  There is unrest in Mereen as Barristan tries to calm the murder in the streets and maintain the peace outside the gates.  Lastly, Daenerys stumbles away from her Dragon and vaguely in the direction of Mereen, but finds an old enemy instead.

We’d like to thank Game of Owns for their reading order, which we enjoyed thoroughly.  Though we have finished it, you can always find it on afeastwithdragons.com.

We still maintained our spoiler free path in the main portion of the cast for those worried about Winds of Winter spoilers, but stick around for what may be the final Davos After Dark if you want deeper speculation and spoilers.

The Podcast is going on a bit of a break, but we are still here!  We will be on twitter, our email is not paused!  So send us your thoughts and ideas.  We’d love to hear from you at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, on twitter @davosfingers, on facebook, on our tumblr at davosfingers.com, or on our patreon at patreon.com/davosfingers.

Check out the reading order we are following at afeastwithdragons.com.  We are nearing the end of what we affectionately refer to as Feast/Dance using this awesome reading order prepared by Game of Owns.

We have almost neared the end of the line, but there are still a few spoilers out there that will avoid until our special section:  Davos After Dark. At that point, ye be warned, there be spoilers in the dark.

In Episode 72, The Fearless Fingers spend some time in and around Mereen as Hizdahr gets ahead (get it?), Quentyn sets up an alternate route to accomplishing his goals, and Victarion goes on the warpath, capturing ship after ship.  Meanwhile, Asha braves the cold, a poor suitor, and some grisly pre-dinner entertainment and is rewarded with a reunion.  Finally Arya earns her stripes and changes her spots.

If you like the reading order and want to learn more about the methodology behind it, check out afeastwithdragons.com.  It combines A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, and we love it!

In Episode 70 Dany invites the enemy inside her walls (snort) as Hizdahr’s peace and Hizdahr’s piece are in need of some celebration.  But the celebration is short-lived as a winged guest interrupts the Fighting Pit festivities. Also, Theon and Jeyne take a leap of hope for a chance at a real life outside Ramsay’s clutches, Jon brokers peace with Tormund’s Freefolk while struggling to maintain peace in his own ranks, and Cersei confesses her sins...some of them...sort of.

In the midst of our end of season break, the Fingers missed each other.  What better way to cure our aches then to discuss Rogue One together, and release our musings to you guys just for funsies!  We had a blast doing it and brought as much fun as we three Fingers can bring.  We hope you enjoy!

Note:  there is pretty close to zero ASOIAF talk in this episode.  It’s all Star Wars, all the time.  So if you only want to hear our voices talk ASOIAF, move along, and we’re sorry for taking up space on whatever device may have automatically downloaded this content.

We’ll be back in just under a month’s time with fresh analysis of everyone’s favorite series as we cover Feast/Dance together.  Can’t wait!

The Red Wedding ripped our hearts out, played tennis with them, ground them up into mush, then fed them to rabid animals. And that was just after the first time we read it. After the pain dulls to a low throb and we get our bearings back, we start to wonder how all the moving pieces of the Red Wedding conspiracy fit together; who planned what? Who talked to whom first? Why did so-and-so agree to it? From Tywin Lannister to Roose Bolton to Sybelle Spicer to Walder Effin' Frey himself, the web of conspiracy is twisted and complicated. It was these questions and more that Matt set out to answer a few months back in the first ever written Davos' Fingers essay, "It Is Wolves I Mean To Hunt: The Motivations of the Red Wedding Conspirators". Now, due to popular demand, we present this audio narration of Matt's essay. Oh, and did we mention that this recording includes the voice talents of all three Fingers? You won't want to miss Scad as Roose Bolton or Brooke as Fat Walda!

It's time for a wrap up episode!  Episode 50 of Davos Fingers brings you our final thoughts on A Storm of Swords.

As usual, our wrap up episode features some Trivia.  Can you beat us at our own game.  Listen in, see if you know more than the Fingers, then let us know through whatever social media bragging post is your favorite!  Three Fingers enter, one Finger leaves...eww....

Another segment interspersed throughout the episode is a series of Top 5 lists provided by our listeners.  Everything from favorite sigil, to favorite sidekick, to favorite ASOIAF meals (and more!) is covered.  You have a better Top 5?  Let us know!

And in an attempt at a completely new segment, the Fingers are (more or less) proud to present the Red Wedding Reacharound!  Listen as we walk through the Red Wedding interspersing thoughts, feelings, quotes, and even drunken songs from three Westerosi characters that we just don't get enough of in the series.

Warning!  Spoilers lurk here.  We didn't constrain ourselves on the top 5 lists or in speculation during various points of this recording.  If you want to stay at our pace, stay away from this wrap up episode.

Lastly, the Fingers will be taking a break after this recording.  Due to the timing of this book finishing and where Holidays fall and whatnot, another episode for Davos' Fingers won't drop until January 16th!  This might be the perfect time to embark on that re-listening project you've been considering. HAR HAR.

Chapters Covered:  All or none.  Everything is in bounds here.

September 28, 2015

It's here, true believers! The final episode for A Clash of Kings, brought to you by everyone's favorite Fingers (besides their own).

Join us as we start with a trivia challenge.  Scad, Brooke, and Matt have been hard at work studying at the Maester's Citadel, and it all comes down to tonight.  Who will take home the crown for ACOK?  Or will one of you, our listeners come out on top?  Make sure to drop us a line and tell us how you did!  But NO cheating or Scad will get Scadtankerous.

The second half of the episode was driven by questions from the Khalasar.  Questions came via ravenmail from all over the world, and we took our stab at answering them.  We tackle dozens of questions, from the very personal "What is your favorite TV show?", to the very theoretical, "What is the weirdest theory you've read?" and everything in between.

This episode is FULL of spoilers for all the books, even TWOIAF and a little Dunk and Egg.  So beware.  Ye be warned.  Other than that, come on in and have a great time!

Lastly, our next episode will pop up on November 23rd, when we'll jump into a boiling pot full of ASOS that we are all looking forward to.  But in the meantime, be sure to look out for Matt's first ever musical release.  Coming in October!

List of Chapters covered:  All or None.  This is meant to focus on ACOK, the whole meaty thing, but we diverge everywhere.
